Three Juveniles Arrested After Attempted Vehicle Theft and Shooting at Battle Creek Home

Three Teens Confronted by Resident Who Faced Four Gunshots

BATTLE CREEK, MI — Three juvenile males are in custody following an early Sunday morning incident that turned violent when suspects allegedly fired shots at a resident who confronted them about an attempted vehicle theft.

Battle Creek Police responded to a report of an attempted vehicle theft at approximately 1:45 a.m. in the 400 block of Arbor Point Drive in Battle Creek. During their investigation, officers discovered that multiple suspects had entered or attempted to enter additional vehicles in the area.

The victim, a resident of the home, confronted the suspects about their criminal activity. In response, the suspects fired four shots at the resident. Fortunately, the victim was not struck and did not suffer injuries.

The suspects fired four shots at the resident who stood up to confront them. While officers investigated the scene, they located four shell casings and reviewed video footage from the area.

Suspects Located Through K-9 Search

Police also received additional 911 calls from residents reporting individuals hiding nearby in the area. During an extensive search operation, officers located three juvenile male suspects near 20th Street and Michigan Avenue.

The victim was able to identify the juveniles as the individuals involved in the incident. A police K-9 unit tracked the suspects and led officers directly to them, resulting in their arrest without incident.

• Two 16-year-old males

All three juveniles were subsequently lodged at the Calhoun County Juvenile Home pending further processing.

Charges Being Submitted

Charges are being submitted for larceny from a vehicle and aggravated felonious assault. These serious charges reflect the dangerous nature of the incident, where minors allegedly attempted to steal vehicles and then fired shots at a civilian who confronted them.

The incident highlights ongoing crime concerns in Battle Creek and Calhoun County, where law enforcement continues to work to keep residents safe. The Battle Creek Police Department is asking anyone with information about this incident to come forward.
